Buying a ticket should be easy. We have been on aa.com, united.com, orbitz.com, asaptickets.com, quantas.com, airnewzealand.com. All of them have low price guarantee which makes us feel good. Prices vary from $2039 (united) to $635 (asaptravel) to go from Chicago ORD to Wellington WLG.
Orbitz was a good price. Coming in about $100 lower than the major carriers website for the same ticket. Then there was American, $1149 was their price this morning, they went up by about $100 during the day. We would book tonight however asaptravel is quite compelling. So Tom is assigned the responsiblity of calling their 800 number in the morning and finding out if they are for real.
In the mean time we noticed that all the carriers inital option allows for an hour or maybe even two to get through immigration and customs on either side of the Pacific. We had to search and search for something with a reasonable window to allow time for the officials to approve our travel. We figure 4 to 5 hours will prevent us from rushing through the airports with a tired kid and cranky parents.
