Camping

Our home school group had a family camp with 28 families and about 120 people. Some families stayed in cabins. Others like us, slept out in our tent two nights. One of the nights it rained and we stayed dry. The tents are designed for NZ wind and rain. Dennis enjoyed running around with some friends. The camp has a Confidence Course which includes climbing, rope swings and creek crossings. He and his friends pretended to be Indiana Jones. He also did a bit of kayaking. The first night we participated in quiz night. We found out we could learn a lot more about NZ history. The second night was a big campfire. Many marshmallows were roasted. Here the marshmallow bags include pink strawberry flavored as well as white vanilla ones. The pink ones are overly sweet when roasted! We sang a song to the tune of Frere Jacques:

Life is butter
Life is butter

Melancholy flower
Melancholy flower

Life is but a flower
Life is but a flower

Cauliflower
Cauliflower

We also shouted from one group to the next, "there ain't no flies on us, there ain't no flies on us, there may be flies on you guys, but there ain't no flies on us!" Also on the fly theme, we all sang, "There was an old lady who swallowed a fly." Other songs: "Grand Old Duke of York," "Do Your Ears Hang Low."

When we returned home, we set up the tent for drying and aired our sleeping bags. After about an hour we brought them in just in time for more rain!
